Richard Churches’ research starts with an intriguing question: are charismatic leadership and hypnosis related? In order to explore that further, he asks if they can both be shown to be the result of the same social, neurological and psychological processes? This SOL-UK workshop invited participants to explore with Richard questions about whether there is any evidence that leadership and hypnosis are related, and looked at the research challenges of exploring any such potential association.
This evening included a discussion of the analysis of leadership language patterns using models of hypnotic language; and the potential of approaches to the measurement of patterns of consciousness and altered states of consciousness.
For those interested in leadership, this workshop was a must. More than about good rhetoric and inspirational ideas, Richard is developing new ways of thinking about language and how particular techniques used by some leaders may influence our decision to follow them. As such, the subject concerns our behavioural patterns for good and bad.
