Conference: Enabling a More Complete Education

13-14th April 2010 @ University of Surrey Guildford

You may be aware of the 2 day Team Academy workshop at the University of Surrey on 18th and 19th March.  Thank you to those SOL-UK members and friends who participated in the second day of the workshop where the Surrey University STEP1 team and the Team Academy group (together with some of the participants from the previous day) met with representatives of other universities, the FE sector, the business community and members of SOL-UK to explore opportunities and options for taking the process further.

Reactions were extremely positive and part of the spin-off from this workshop Workshop is a warm invitation to SOL-UK members and friends from Prof Norman Jackson at the University of Surrey to join a SCEPTrE conference on Life-wide Learning in April.

Professor Jackson thinks the concepts will have wide applicability and may well be of interest to SOL-UK members and friends. The invited speaker presentations may be of particular interest especially Michael Eraut (talking about knowledge transfer between people and communities) and David Snowden. The latter has much to say about organisational learning and his sense maker is a very powerful organisational learning tool.

More information and details of how to register can be found on the following link:

THE INVITED SPEAKER SESSIONS WILL BE STREAMED FROM THE WIKI SO THIS MAY APPEAL TO THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND OR WHO LIVE IN FAR AWAY PLACES.

Professor Jackson says "The conference will explore the ideas of life-wide learning and education - we think these concepts add value to the existing idea of lifelong learning. We are examining how universities value and recognise learning gained through experiences outside the formal curriculum and how these forms of learning are integrated. We know that the growth of recognition schemes is an important national phenomenon: over 40 universities have developed such schemes and so far 25 of them are offering contributions. We hope that some of you will be able to join us.

Please pass on the information to anyone else you think might be interested."
