Does Technology Control Us? NOTE: SCHEDULE CHANGE (Date to be advised)

Venue: London, UK, 14th March 2012

Dr Roy Woodhead
Hewlett Packard,  ITO Service Management
SOL-UK Steward

PLEASE NOTE:  Scheduled date of 14March is now incorrect - new date to be arranged.

A key focus for SoL-UK and Organisational Learning is to help organisations become ‘more effective’. Do we ever stop and question the basis for this intention? Why does it make sense? If every manager and leader is trying to create effective organisations why do we see so many that fall short of such a status? Is there a bias at work which we are not as aware of as we might be?

Roy will question  the current way we think of Organisational Learning and argue it may be conditioned by what Heidegger calls the “Technological Attitude”.  That is, we have become technological change agents without necessarily realising it.

Roy will help us understand the impact of specific technology-instances (e.g. cars, electricity, computers) and their aggregated effect he calls the Technology-Collective. The intention is to examine our thinking and hopefully surface some of the hidden assumptions that can inhibit our growth / influence.
